Aurora Aksnes' first musical memories involve finding a tiny piano in her basement and bewildered by the sound it produced. Jan Oystein Aksnes was her father. They encouraged her not to play music only for fun or for the sake of growth but rather, she should explore it. In order to do so she wrote her first new compositions. Her sources include noted writer Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan, as well as her love of Bjork's style. Her mom encouraged her to play her music publicly, not in order to achieve fame, but rather to let others know that they matter and how they can make a difference to make a difference in the world. She started playing piano when she was only six and was writing her first song by the time she was nine. Her family didn't know about this until she turned fourteen. Aurora's accomplishments were never her goal. Aurora claims she loves creating music. According to her, music is the best means of communicating anything.
